What does RPM really mean?

Appologies for a dumb question...but what constitutes an "engine revolution"? Does completion of the four stroke process on one cylinder = one engine revolution? Do all cylinders need to complete the four stroke to equal an engine rev? Thx.

Revolutions per Minute.

It is just a measure of crank rotation (full 360 degree turn), not full "4" stroke completion.

So in one RPM, there are only TWO combustion strokes. Each cylinder combusting every other revolution.
